Various research institutes have been founded at the Environmental Campus in recent years to bundle activities in the field of research and development and to exploit synergy effects.

Prof. Dr. Fischer-Stabel is co-founder and director of the
Institute for Software Systems in Business, Environment and Administration (ISS) 
and founding member of the 
Zentrums für Bodenschutz und Flächenhaushaltspolitik (ZBF) 

The technical research focus of Prof. Fischer-Stabel is in the field of Environmental information systems, the regional geographic fields of work have their focus on topics concerning European low mountain ranges and mountain landscapes.
