Environmental information systems (EIS) of various dimensions are important tools for ensuring rapid and qualified action in view of the constantly growing requirements in the environmental sector.
Since the publication of the 2nd edition, information technology has developed rapidly, naturally also affecting the processing and provision of environmental data. In addition to new analytical methods, innovative monitoring systems have been developed and standardization efforts for the exchange of data and services have been supported transnationally and globally. Mobile applications have become an integral part of our everyday lives and new visualization techniques enable the comprehensible transport of highly complex information to the viewer. In its 3rd edition, this work takes up the innovations of recent years in order to take into account the expanded interests of students in the context of an environment-related information technology education.
This interdisciplinary textbook is aimed at all those who not only use modern environmental information systems, but also want to understand and design them themselves. It is aimed at students of various environmental studies courses, but also computer science. Practitioners who deal with environmental information in any form can use this book to support their work, as can teachers who are active in the broad field of geoinformatics and environmental informatics.
