The LCA CARE project - Collect, Analyse, Report and Evolve for eco-innovative SMEs - brings Higher Education and Training providers together to produce an innovative tool and a set of training initiatives focused on improving the ecological impact of small companies. The overall objective of the project is to develop, test and provide innovative resources and new skills for SMEs to perform Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), addressing emerging industry needs and fostering the transition to greener practices and eco-innovative solutions in the agri-food sector.

The consortium, composed by 13 organisations from Portugal, Bulgaria, Germany, Lithuania and Spain, will develop, test and explore the LCA CARE tool (together with a digital user guide), a cloud-based application for SMEs of the agri-food sector. Using the LCA as key concept and the LCA CARE app as tool to assess and improve the life cycle of the SMEs’ products, the project will also provide capacity building for micro, small and medium-sized companies and education providers on LCA methodologies to optimize the environmental impact of products and promote Eco-innovation processes to (re)design more sustainable goods, services or processes.

Academic partners will design and deliver a post-graduate innovative training programme targeting SME managers and a course on Critical Review of product LCA, besides a set of short learning units/modules on LCA and eco-innovation.

To strengthen the social and consumer awareness of the issues addressed in the project, there will be a series of national and international events, such as focus groups, workshops, conferences, multiplier events, final conference and other interactions with the main target groups of the project (SMEs, Education and Training, Students, Professionals) and consistent communication with the wider community.
