Submission of official medical certificates

From the summer semester 2024 onwards, official medical certificates must be submitted again from the fourth certificate submitted.

Submission of official medical certificates

At the UCB, students can submit medical certificates from a primary doctor or specialized doctor for three examination dates in the event of illness during examinations. The number of certificates is counted. From the fourth and any further illness during examinations, official medical certificates must also be submitted on the basis of decisions by the examination boards (see below). Medical officers can be found at the health authorities of the place of residence or the place of study. A fee must be paid to the public health officer for the issue of such certificates; this fee will not be refunded by the university.

Decisions:
In the two faculties of Environmental Business/Environmental Law (UW/UR) and Environmental Planning/Environmental Technology (UP/UT), the examination boards have passed the following resolution:

UW/UR, resolution of 15.10.2008: After a student has reported illness three times for examination dates, an official medical certificate must be submitted to the Examination Office without being asked from the fourth time onwards. Failure to comply with this regulation will result in the examination being graded as failed.

UP/UT, decision of 03.12.2003: After a student has reported illness three times for examination dates, an official medical certificate is required. This certificate must be sent unsolicited to the Examinations Office with the fourth notification of illness. Failure to comply with this regulation will result in the examination being graded as failed.
Due to the decision of the Examination Board UP/UT of 15.06.2016, students in the UP/UT department must also submit an official medical certificate if they withdraw after the start of processing an examination.

These resolutions can be read under the following link after clicking on the respective department box: https://www.umwelt-campus.de/studium/informationen-service/pruefungsamt/antraege-an-pruefungsausschuesse . Here you will find further decisions of the examination boards, e.g. also on the required content of such official medical certificates.

During the Corona exceptional situation, the health authorities have asked the universities to refrain from submitting such certificates. We have now complied with this request up to and including the winter semester 2023/2024. As all special corona regulations have now ended and the situation in the health authorities has eased again, the decisions of the examination boards will be implemented again from the summer semester 2024.

From the summer semester 2024, students who have already submitted three medical certificates for examinations or are studying in a degree program of the UP/UT faculty and drop out of an examination after the start the processing of the examination for health reasons will have to submit official medical certificates again.

The Examinations Office will check the number of certificates received so far. Certificates that were submitted in the semesters with the Corona special regulations (= summer semester 2020 up to and including summer semester 2023) will not be counted!

All students who have already received three certificates by winter semester 2019/2020 have received a notification from the Examination Office that they are required to submit a medical certificate. This notification is legally binding and the obligation to submit official medical certificates now applies again for these students from the summer semester 2024.

Students who have submitted three or more medical certificates from the winter semester 2023/2024 onwards or who submit them in one of the following semesters will receive a notification of the obligation to submit official medical certificates and will then be obliged to submit official medical certificates each time they are ill during examinations.

If you have any questions, please contact the Examination Office.
