GreenSoft at INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2024

From Sep. 24 to 26 2024 we will be attending INFORMATIK2024 of the Gesellschaft für Informatik at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden with papers and 2 workshops.

Workshop "Künstliche Intelligenz in der Umweltinformatik"

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the 5th workshop “Künstliche Intelligenz in der Umweltinformatik” (Artificial Intelligence in Environmental Informatics - KIU-2024) will take place, which has been co-organized by the Green Software Engineering working group for 5 years as part of the GI Annual Conference. Environmental informatics analyzes and evaluates environmental issues in an interdisciplinary manner, with technological approaches such as simulations, geo-information systems and sensor data processing playing a central role and finding applications in both public administration and business. The complexity of the ecosystems to be investigated often requires approximate models and takes into account influences of weather and climate, with strong links to current topics such as climate change and smart cities. The KIU-2024 workshop invites you to discuss innovative AI-based IT approaches for environmental applications.

Two publications from the Green Software Engineering working group were accepted for publication at the KIU workshop:

  • Towards Sustainable Machine Learning: Analyzing Energy-Efficient Algorithmic Strategies for Environmental Sensor Data (Berkay Cetkin, Lejla Begic Fazlic, Achim Guldner, Stefan Naumann, Guido Dartmann)
  • LLMs on the Edge: Quality, Latency, and Energy Efficiency (Sebastian Bast, Lejla Begic Fazlic, Stefan Naumann, Guido Dartmann)

Workshop "Umweltinformatik zwischen Nachhaltigkeit und Wandel"

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the 12th workshop "Umweltinformatik zwischen Nachhaltigkeit und Wandel" "Environmental Informatics between Sustainability and Change" will focus on the topic of “Green Coding”. Sustainable development, climate protection, digital technologies and artificial intelligence are closely interlinked key topics of the 21st century that are the subject of intense debate. In particular, the increasing energy and resource consumption of information and communication technology (ICT) poses a major challenge, with both hardware and software having a significant impact. In order to make the digital transformation more environmentally friendly, new approaches, models and educational formats are required so that the ecological footprint of ICT remains as small as possible.

The workshop takes place annually and is once again being co-organized by the Green Software Engineering working group. Two publications from the Environmental Campus deal with the following topics

  • An e-marketplace system for efficient, sustainable rural logistics and mobility, based on cyber-physical contracts (Sam Kopp, Jens Schneider, Guido Dartmann and Lars Creutz)

  • Green Coding für junge Softwareunternehmen: Herausforderungen für Startups im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung und Nachhaltigkeit (Lisa Lill-Kochems)
