On August 13, 2021, Fabian Ehmann, a member of the parliamentary group BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, visited the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld and met with Prof. Helling and Prof. te Heesen for an exchange. Fabian Ehmann is part of the first generation of students in the "Renewable Energies" degree program at the Environmental Campus. He completed his bachelor's degree in 2016.
Among other things, Ehmann learned about the possibilities for sustainable mobility strategies through solar carports on campus, which are used for emission-free charging of electric cars, as well as ongoing research projects, particularly about renewable energy technology and hydrogen. Other topics included further developing the environmental technology network Ecoliance Rhineland-Palatinate and the regional network office for sustainability strategies RENN.west. Finally, concepts for spin-offs and start-ups at the university were discussed, especially in sustainability and digitalization. The GISplus project (Gründungs- und Innovationsregion Südwest+) led by Prof. Kuhn could provide good starting points.
