Project

Application related comparison of different 3D metal printing processes

The ComPrintMetal3D project aims to provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Greater Region with a guide to additive manufacturing of metal components. In this emerging manufacturing sector, there is a very strong dynamic and an increasing number of process options. This and a lack of overview make it difficult for SMEs, despite great interest in additive manufacturing, to efficiently choose the most economical manufacturing option. To make this possible, a step-by-step guide is created that addresses filament- and powder-based printing methods. First, the state of the art is compiled in order to provide interested SMEs with basic information. Furthermore, samples are produced and examined using the different methods in order to be able to determine basic material properties and compare them with each other. This creates a basis for all further investigations in the project. Subsequently, the project partners select demonstration objects from the business areas of the company partners in the consortium. These objects will serve as demonstrators for the project and will be additively manufactured. In order to demonstrate the full potential of additive manufacturing, the components will be investigated and optimized accordingly. In this way, the versatile application possibilities can be clarified and the advantages of the manufacturing method can be shown to interested SMEs. The knowledge gained will be made available to the general public free of charge during the project and disseminated in the consortium's existing networks.
